Primary Purpose:
To assemble, install and repair plumbing equipment, products and related systems.

Typical Duties:

  • Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angle, using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines and pipe-bending machines.
  • Studying building plans and inspecting structures to assess material and equipment needs, to establish the sequence of pipe installations, and to plan installation around obstructions.
  • Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes, and fixtures in structures, using measuring instruments such as rulers and levels.
  • Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
  • Assemble pipe sections, tubing and fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, solvents, caulking, or soldering brazing and welding equipment.
  • Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances etc, using hand and power tools.
  • Direct working engaged in pipe cutting and preassembly and installation of plumbing systems and components.
  • Cut openings in structures to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings, using hand and power tools.
  • Review blueprint and building codes and specifications to determine work details and procedures.
  • Install underground storm, sanitary and water piping systems and extend piping to connect fixtures and plumbing to systems.
  • Install HVAC/Heating related materials, equipment and products.

Requirements:

  • Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
  • Perform a variety of duties which may change often.
  • Plan, lay-out fabricate, assemble, install and repair plumbing parts, products and equipment.
  • Utilize machining and lay-out techniques.
  • Use hand tools, power powers, machines and equipment.
  • Read and Interpret blueprint, sketches, or production specifications to determine sequence and methods of prefabrication and installation.
  • Lay-out and mark dimensions and reference lines on material using necessary tools.
  • Apply knowledge of shop mathematics and lay-out techniques.
  • Operate fabricating machines such as plasma cutter, punch press, threading machines and brazing and/or welding equipment
  • Inspect assemblies and installation for conformance to specifications.
  • Repair and maintain plumbing products and equipment.

Physical Requirements (must be able to):

  • Stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle and manipulate objects
  • Lift and carry materials weighing 50 – 100 pounds
  • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds and other climbing devices
  • Carry tools and equipment
  • Work while in stooped, kneeling, crouched and crawling positions
  • Be able to see naturally or with correction
  • Weigh Less Then 350lbs in order to properly utilize equipment and PPE such as ladders and fall protection.
  • To safely perform designated tasks and while wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as (but not limited to) safety glasses, gloves, steel toe boots, hearing protection, fall protection, etc.

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Completion of Plumbing Apprenticeship or Trade School
  • Completion of On The Job Training Hours
  • Valid Plumbing License from a Major Municipality or a Valid State Issued Journeyman’s Card
  • Valid drivers license or reliable transportation to shops and/or job sites
  • Able to work off hours and weekends as required

Environmental and Weather Conditions (must be able to):

  • Perform assigned tasks under all types of environmental and weather conditions including severe cold, extreme heat, wet or dry weather and high winds
  • Perform assigned tasks in noisy conditions, close proximity to moving mechanical parts, working in high, exposed levels as well as in cramped quarters with proper PPE
  • May be required to operate or work around power-actuated hand tools

Supervises and coordinates activities of work crews engaged in the fabrication and installation of plumbing and or sheet metal products and equipment.

Typical Duties:

  • Supervise and coordinate activities of assigned crew.
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints and job orders as needed.
  • Install and direct installation of assemblies in buildings or worksites.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
  • Reports violations of policy or safety regulations to proper personnel.
  • Documents job progress via daily reports, jobsite photos, etc.
  • Establishes and adjusts work sequences to meet construction schedules, using knowledge of capacities of equipment and assigned personnel.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems.
  • Attend internal and external job meetings as required.

Primary Purpose:

To assist in the assembling, installation and repair mechanical services equipment, products and related systems under the direction of a foreman, mechanics or other supervisory role.

Typical Duties:

  • Manual labor such a ditch digging, material handling or demolition
  • Clean and prepare shops or work sites
  • Clean up debris and construction waste.
  • Receive deliveries to jobsite or shop
  • Preparing materials and assembles for delivery
  • Insulation, painting, and general quality inspections of piping and sheet metal materials and assemblies
  • Assist in basic jobsite or shop record keeping
  • Assist in ensuring a safe working environment through observation, reporting and securing areas of eliminate potential hazards
  • Load and unload trucks and storage areas

APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING INFORMATION

James Craft & Son will be accepting applications for our apprenticeship training program in the following trade classifications:

  • Plumber/Pipefitter
  • Sheet Metal Worker

Apprentices are required to attend classes in subjects related to the trade for a minimum of 144 hours per year, each year of their apprenticeship.  Tuition fees are paid by the Company—additional materials paid by the apprentice.

Applicants shall be of legal working age, and physically fit to perform the duties of the trade.  All job offers are contingent upon passing physical/drug test, and furnishing ID and work eligibility documents required by U.S. Immigration Laws.

Individuals interested in becoming an apprentice must apply in person and furnish copies of the following non-returnable materials:

  1. Proof of age (copy for our records of birth certificate or similar document).
  2. Copy of High School Diploma or GED Certificate, if applicable.
  3. Transcripts of Last Grade Completed from Guidance Department of school attended.
  4. Proof of Trade Work Experience, if any (letter from employer noting experience).
  5. Form 214 for Veterans applying. Other forms may be needed.
  6. Three Letters of Reference from acquaintances, other than family.

Applicants placed in the eligibility pool will be interviewed by a representative of our Company.  They will be notified of the time and date of the interview.
